Unleashing plan

Posted in Irin Westerfield, Uncategorized at 1:46 pm by groupone

I was working on some political cartoons, but I am not satisfied with their quality as of yet.

If I must decide at this point, I will choose to do a political flyer to bring my message to the masses.

Perhaps some artwork will be included on the flyer.

The content of the words will be a mix of passionate personal opinion and some monetary statistics about unequal wage earning that the public will find reprehensible.

A headline or caption from a popular news source may also be included.

Social injustice

Posted in Irin Westerfield, Uncategorized at 2:26 pm by groupone

The social injustice that I am pursuing is the enormous wage earning disparity between the social classes.
This injustice has been going on since the beginning of time. It is a reprehensible and immoral problem that must be illuminated to the masses.
I chose this topic for several reasons. 1. It is tax season and the rich have found ways not to pay their fair share, 2. The posting of CEO salaries to the public, 3. The smugness of the white upper-class, 4. Economic abuse by big corporation executives, 5. The recent rise of real estate and fuel prices that make life impossible for the common working man, 6. Ridiculously large salaries of those in sports and entertainment.

The Corner…

Posted in Brandi Crawford, Uncategorized at 3:15 am by groupone

I found the song "The Corner" to be a description about what it is like to simply get by and survive on a daily basis in an urban area.  A neighborhood street corner is described in detail as a sort of meeting grounds.  I also believe the lyrics use an emotional appeal to argue that the stereotypical views of what happens on an urban streetcorner are not always correct, and often when crimes are comitted its the response to societal strains and not people actually wanting to do wrong.  As Kanye West says in the hook, the people steal or even kill simply because they believe its their only means of survival.  The descriptions are vivid, which allows the listeners to feel like they are right there on the street corner.  The descriptions make the argument real.  I have to admit that I did not understand what The Last Poets were saying until the very end when they used universal monuments to compare the importance of the street corners.  I think The Last Poets are trying to say that a street corner is not just some place for gang violence, but it is a home and a place of freedom from society's judgement and it is all that some people will ever know.

Magazines (591-592)

Posted in Pamela Nelson, Uncategorized at 10:45 pm by groupone

I looked through the magazine NEWSWEEK. I am not much of a magazine reader, and in fact don’t ever buy any to read or just look at. So, this assignment seemed like something that I did want to revisit as reading magazines is not really a part of my life. I think that NEWSWEEK belongs to the American reader. The people it writes about and to are people who make changes in American Politics, culture, the arts, music and tv with its huge influence on the public. It seems that most of the advertisements are purchased by very large companies that influence our lives also such as drug companies and high tech companies. Most of the articles that are written have already been covered by the news and television industry. Everything that is written is newsworthy in the here and now. For the average American person, myself included, all of the things that are being written about are not happenings that we can control. It almost seems as if the big brother ideology is prevalent, the government being the controlling big brother with its larger that life media brother companies fueling the powerful people who will never be a part of our real lives if it were not for the writers of NEWSWEEK.
